Genesis
An intimate composition of flowing natural planes and gentle curvature, balancing solidity with open space.
Genesis is the most intimate work in the collection, and perhaps the most graceful. At 85 by 83 centimetres, it is almost as wide as it is tall. A broad, smooth sheet of wood sweeps across its base like a breaking wave, its grain flowing in fine parallel lines. From it, a single ribbon twists upward, turning on itself before curling over at the top in a gesture of remarkable softness. Solid and open, heavy and weightless, it balances opposites with ease. It feels like a beginning: the moment a form first lifts itself from the ground.
