Drift
A richly layered form whose weathered surfaces and subtle undulations convey a sense of slow, organic movement.
Drift is built from folds. Layer upon layer of wood rises in a 118-centimetre column, each fold rippling and overlapping the next like draped cloth, wind-shaped sand or the strata of a cliff. Fine undulating lines run through every surface, recording movement so slow it can only be measured in years. The silhouette is calm and upright, but the detail is restless, full of ledges, recesses and soft edges where light pools and shadow gathers. It is a sculpture to be studied closely, revealing something new each time it is approached.
